D. Edmond Hiebert
Dr. D. Edmond Hiebert, the focus of this issue of Direction, is completing his twentieth year as Professor of New Testament at the Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary. Beginning with the fall of 1975, he will retire and continue to serve on a part-time basis.
“Have you considered my servant, Job . . . ?” the Lord asked, when He wanted to draw attention to the dedication of a God-fearing person. To our constituency, this issue of Direction will raise a similar question, “Have you considered D. Edmond Hiebert, the servant of the Lord?”
The services of D. Edmond Hiebert have been dedicated to the Lord and to our Brotherhood for the past 33 years. First at Tabor College and then, since 1955, at the Biblical Seminary. However, through his work as editor of the Adult Quarterly and the writing of books and articles, his constituency has become much broader. Several of his books are already in their seventh and eighth printing.
The classroom and writing are not only professional pursuits for D. Edmond; they are a vocation in which he steadfastly committed himself to the glory of God and the spiritual growth of individuals. His physical handicap of complete deafness became a constant means of accomplishing God’s purpose in his life.
The purpose of this issue is to present to you, the reader, Dr. D. Edmond Hiebert, a servant of God. This is our expression of gratitude to God for granting us the privilege of being the special recipients of these services; and to D. Edmond, for the contribution he has made to our lives. Our prayer is that you will also praise God with us and benefit from the life of this man, and that we will be granted many more years of his presence among us.
